Michael grew up in both Russia and the USA. While studying for a MA in Psychology at Moscow State University he started to work in the film industry. After graduating he moved to London and began directing commercials, which he successfully did for over 10 years. His commercial works won numerous awards at festivals, including Cannes Lions Young Director’s Award, Golden Drum, Shots and others. His debut feature film “SILVER SKATES” aka “CITY OF ICE” (2020) – was the first Russian-language movie to be acquired as a Netflix Originals. It was the Opening film at the Moscow Film Festival (2020) and won numerous awards at the Golden Eagle National Awards (2021), including the prize for “Best Picture”, and at the Nika Awards (2020), including “Discovery of the Year.” His second feature film – “Woland” starring August Diehl, is based on the cult novel by Mikhail Bulgakov “Master and Margarita.” Principle photography wrapped in 2021.
