Director Anthony Leonardi III has an extensive eye for building large scale cinematic worlds with relatable characters, creating memorable, fun, and visually striking stories. With a background as a fine artist, Leonardi’s bold painterly eye, expressive character design, and whimsical concepting is in the DNA of his extensive work in music videos, commercials, and feature films. In the commercial space, Leonardi’s most recent accolades include winning two Bronze Lions at Cannes for ‘Cloak vs. Tuna Melt’ – a short film created in partnership between Marvel and Tide timed to the release of “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.” and also directing Heineken’s “Shrink Responsibly” nonalcoholic 0.0 beer campaign staring Paul Rudd which aired throughout dry January and culminated with Heineken’s first ever Super Bowl commercial, making several “best commercials of the game” lists. Additional brands that have enlisted his talents for commercial campaigns include Lexus, Coca-Cola, Marvel, Old Spice, Quicken Loans, Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Infiniti, Pizza Hut, Audi, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Mountain Dew, and more. In the music video space, Leonardi’s most known for directing Imagine Dragon’s “It’s Time,” which earned a VMA nomination for Best Rock Video and has garnered more than 535 million views worldwide to date. Along with his short form work, Leonardi has collaborated on many high-profile feature films. His recent credits include directing second unit for the upcoming Paramount Studios “Transformers: Rise of the Beast” and Netflix global juggernaut “The Gray Man.” In addition to directing second unit, he also served as Head of Story for Disney’s “Jungle Cruise.” As an artist, he helped lay the foundation for some of the most impactful scenes in Marvel films to date, including the introduction of Black Panther in “Captain America: Civil War” and Iron Man’s farewell in “Avengers: End Game.” He also worked on “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Rango,” and “Game of Thrones,” among others. Leonardi is a fourth generation Angeleno working in the film industry. His father, grandfather and great grandfather all worked as carpenters and stand-by painters during the height of the studio system.
